Offered for sale is a pair of plates from Aj Wilkinson, Royal Staffordshire Pottery Factory, Burslem, England c1907, decorated in an Imari pattern. Imari is a style of porcelain named after the Japanese port from which it was shipped to the West, beginning in the late 17th century. This porcelain is characterised by its colorful elaborate style, and can be recognised through its three dominant colors: blue, burnt orange and white; the whole piece is often enhanced with intricate gilding. Frequent motifs are landscapes, flowers, plants, birds and mythical creatures. The backstamps are those used by Aj Wilkinson c1907. A lovely decorative pair.
