Offered for sale is this wonderfully vibrant, Humpty Dumpty musical jug, which Carlton Ware introduced in around 1935. Bright eyed and looking very pleased with himself, in his tricorn hat and high collar, he is styled as a traditional Toby jug. He plays the tune "D'ye ken John Peel?" – which translates to "Do you know John Peel?" it is a famous Cumberland hunting song written around 1824 by John Woodcock Graves (1795–1886) in celebration of his friend John Peel (1776–1854), an English fox hunter from the Lake District of northern England. This musical Humpty Dumpty Jug was one of a small range of Carlton Ware musical novelties, made in the 1930s. Unless otherwise stated on item description Free delivery included to UK Mainland & Ni.
